In late 2014, the seed of the thought of planting a new church in Sacramento was sowed to see if the Lord might allow it to take root. Among the needs in view were:

  • 90% of people in Sacramento don't even attend a church.
  • The anticipated rapid growth of Sacramento over the next 10 years
  • As a diverse city, there was a need for a diverse church (Less than 80% of any one culture)
  • The need for the true preaching of the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 12:3-4)
  • The need for more faithful Gospel ministry (Gal. 1:8-9)
  • The need of genuine, Christ-exalting churches (2 Tim. 4:3-4)
  • The need of churches taking the Gospel outside of their walls.

So the work of prayer and planning was initiated by Vlad Burlaka and a "multitude of counselors" to seek the Lord's will in starting this work.

In the early half of 2015, the Lord provided a team of faithful men to form what is now the leadership team- men who love and obey Christ, love His Word, love to serve His people, and love to proclaim the great Gospel about Him. This encouraged the further pursuit of God's will in this endeavor, and the effort continued to seek other people and churches who might desire to support or even form the core group of this proposed church plant. The primary supporting church is Grace Community Church, Sun Valley.

The latter half of 2015 would reveal some significant obstacles, but when the dust had settled, the Lord had provided every resource necessary to move forward to plant a church. The leadership team and core group members began to prayerfully execute all the work necessary to become a new church family. Our core group came from a variety of church traditions, yet singularly united on need for faithful preaching of the Bible, and faithful obedience of what was preached (2 Tim. 2:1-2; 1 John 2:3-6).

City Bible Church finally launched in February 2016 at Warren A. McClaskey Adult Center in East Sacramento! In the summer months, however, the absence of air conditioning in our meeting space motivated us to pray for a new location.

In July 2016, we moved to our current home at Hiram Johnson High School, which has proven to be a great and growing partnership, and a perfect location to reach our original target areas of need, as identified by local pastors and research data.

It's an exciting time right now in the early life of our church as we are still getting to know one another, and in a very literal sense growing together! Please connect with us by filling out this card; or better yet, visit us this coming Sunday.
