This passages reminds us that love is indispensable to our faith. In the world the motto is, “I treat you how you treat me. You hate me, I hate you. You are indifferent to me, I am indifferent to you, you love me & and then I love you.”

But God’s way is unique, He wants us to treat people the way God treats us. The story of the Bible is that we hated God, and He choose to love us. We learn about how to live out this kind of love in 1 John 3:11-18.
