The National Day of Prayer has been traditionally observed on the first Thursday of May since it was established by Harry S. Truman in 1952. This day has been an observance to pray and fast. It is a call to pray specifically for the country. Second Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Clearly, this is a call for Israel to pray and repent before God in order to receive restoration when they went astray as a nation. America is not Israel nor are we given specific promises from God; however, there is a principle and command from God to pray for government leaders and all men (1 Tim 2:1-6).

Church, we need to pray for this country! Our country is filled with sin, calling good evil and evil good from LGBTQ community and those who promote abortion; and there is an inability to rationally discern truth from error. Only Jesus can provide hope for sinful men. Thus, we are to pray that Christ Jesus will be preached and exalted in a dark world, and that we would stand as lights (Matt 5:14) and having done all to stand (Eph 6:13).

Therefore, on May 2nd, we are asking you to participate and pray for the country. We will gather that Thursday morning at 6:00 AM at our church building to pray until 7:00 AM. In addition, we are asking our Community Groups to pray for the country on their regularly scheduled discussion times (both Wednesday and Thursday groups). We thank you in advance for your participation and desire to see God exalted and proclaimed in our country.

God bless,

Pastoral Staff
